Introduction
The main character, Bridget White, moves from an old public school to a top‑notch boarding school where she meets her roommates, Chantelle, Antoinette and Veuve. The name of the cabin is“The Stables” because the girls love horses and each of them owns one horse. Bridget’s parents, Roz and Len White, are criminals and they illegally import goods from around the world. Bridget’s brother, Gavin, is currently in jail for shoplifting. Bridget also meets a boy called Menzies who goes to the same boarding school as her. Bridget finds that Menzies is very kind to her, but she cannot make proper friends with him as she is worried he might find out about her family’s history and occupation. Originally, Bridget is not very keen to go to the boarding school and she tries to be unnoticed by others. When it is parents’ night, Bridget tries to persuade her parents if she can leave the school to avoid her parents going to jail.
Complication
Menzies tells Bridget that his father is the National Development Minister and his family is at risk from terrorists, and for that reason he has a bodyguard accompanying him. Menzies tells Bridget that two young innocent refugees from Afghanistan, Jamal and Bibi, are locked up in a detention centre because their parents set up an illegal school in their own home. Menzies always receives letters from them telling how badly the refugees want to escape, and he fears for their lives.
Escalation
Bridget and Menzies decide to ask Menzies’ dad (National Development Minister) and the Prime Minister if the government can release the kids from the detention centre. Instead, the whole plan backfiring, the police found out that Bridget’s family are convicted criminals and their real surname is actually “Podger”. Bridget is in limbo as whether to go underground and hide with her parents or put her life on the linbo to rescue Jamal and Bibi. After a tough decision, Bridget decides to set off with Menzies on a dangerous journey to rescue Jamal and Bibi.
Climax
Bridget, Len, Menzies and Jamal’s dad drive to the desert detention centre. As soon as they arrived there, Len and Jamal’s dad beg the guards to release the kids. The guards refused to, so the four of them decide to dig a tunnel to get inside the detention centre, but again to no avail. Just after they have given up hope, the media and the Australian public came to help them dig the tunnel and rescue the refugees.
Resolution
After a long night digging underground, all the refugees in the detention centre are finally freed, including Jamal and Bibi. Jamal’s dad is overjoyed to be reunited with his beloved family after so many years. Menzies’ dad also plans to resign from the government and stand as an independent at the next election, so he has the opportunity to represent the refugee kids. Jamal and Bibi also plan to go to the same school as Bridget’s.
